Expect Theatre and Arts Etobicoke present the sixth annual urbanNOISE festival against violence in Toronto's Rexdale and Jamestown communities. Headlined by up-and-coming hip-hop star Reema Major, Toronto's steel pan masters Souls of Steel Orchestra, and a special guest, Grammy-winning beatboxer Scratch of The Roots. urbanNOISE is a free all-ages event taking place Saturday, September 10 from 3pm – 8pm on the grounds of the Albion Library in North Etobicoke.

Joining the stage will be rap artists LP Da Original, Flip Watson, The Freedom Writers (Big Sproxx, Theology 3, Tona, Adam Bomb, Progress, Frankie Payne, Mathematik); urban dance troupes Broken Silence and J La Soul; local dancehall reggae talents Chizzy Bashment featuring A.B.S. and Holiday Bros; Punjab folk musicians and dancers Toronto Bhangra All-Stars and Cuban poet Telmary.

urbanNOISE also includes a fabulous REXtreme Hair Show by Sebert Exclusives, African djembe drumming, urban arts workshops, and the unveiling of a large graffiti mural made by youth from the area, commemorating the lives lost to violence. The mural will display the names of Rexdale residents that have died from violence, and community members will be invited to add names to it at the festival.

There is also a Somali & Horn of Africa Famine Relief artistic speak-out and fundraising drive co-produced with the Somali Youth Association of Toronto. urbanNOISE will also hand out the urbanNOISE Award recognizing the work of an outstanding individual in the community.
