This Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award-winning play draws three distinct family stories into a universal tale of mortality. Set in a west coast hospice, the stories are introduced individually. Three families take up residence in private cottages to pass the last days with a loved one; a conventional working class family; the second family is comprised of a gay couple, and the ex-wife of the terminal patient; and a mother-daughter relationship is found in the third cottage. Each of the families struggles with different levels of loss and all aspects of grief are given voice during the course of the play.
