Violinist Helen Ayres, pianist Anna Goldsworthy and cellist Timothy Nankervis are award winning The Seraphim Trio. They will present a mixture of classical chamber music and new Australian work in a one night only performance at Riverside Theatres on Saturday 8 August at 7.30pm.

The Seraphim Trio has been playing together since 1994 and have performed the world over. International performances include the Schönberg Festival in Vienna, in Noumea for Musica Viva, in Italy and Japan. Their talent was acknowledged in 2001 when they were awarded the prize for Leading Piano Trio and The Audience Choice Award at the Australian National Chamber Music Competition in Australia. The Seraphim Trio appears regularly for Musica Viva's Menage, Countrywide and Coffee Concerts series and is broadcast on ABC Classic-FM. They have also been guests at many Australian music festivals including Port Fairy, Castlemaine, Townsville, Mildura and the Barossa. The Seraphim Trio have worked with other prestigious musicians and have studied in Germany with Hatto Beyerle and in Australia with William Hennessy, Eleonora Sivan, Mark Mogilevsky, Ronald Farren-Price and Lois Simpson.

Helen Ayres is a Doctoral graduate from the University of Melbourne where she completed a special study into the music of the Romanian violinist and composer George Enescu. Helen previously held a full-time position with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, has performed as Acting Deputy Concertmaster with Orchestra Victoria, and has toured with the Australian Chamber Orchestra and the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra. Helen holds teaching positions at Queens College and at the University of Melbourne’s Faculty of Music, where she is Acting Head of Strings.

Pianist, Anna Goldsworthy, has just completed a Doctorate of Musical Arts at the University of Melbourne. Anna also graduated with a Master of Music Degree from Texas Christian University where she held the F.Howard and Mary J.Walsh Graduate Piano Scholarship. She completed her Bachelor of Music degree at the University of Adelaide with first class honours and in 2000 won the David Paul Landa Memorial Scholarship for pianists. She travelled to Russia and France as a South Australian Emerging Artist and has performed extensively around Australia as a soloist and chamber musician.

The third member of The Seraphim Trio, cellist Timothy Nankervis, recently enrolled into the Degree of Doctor of Musical Arts at the University of Melbourne with David Berlin. Previously he completed a Masters Degree for which he held a Melbourne Research Scholarship. In 2000 Timothy was selected as the most outstanding string player at the Advanced Performance Program at the Australian National Academy of Music. Timothy has also performed the Elgar Cello Concerto with the Sydney Symphony as part of their Young Artists Program and other impressive prizes including the Sir Davis Martin Chamber Music Prize, culminating in a recital at the Sydney Opera House. Timothy is now a casual member of the Melbourne, Sydney and Tasmanian Orchestras.

The Seraphim Trio is celebrated for its vitality and intelligence and is a must see for lover of classical music.
