The Great Migration, which Chicago Defender editor Robert Abbott referred to as the "Second Emancipation," transformed northern cities and Black America. Dr. Grossman will explore the dynamics of migration and how migration changed African-Americans who moved to northern cities and the cities themselves, particularly Chicago. Dr. Grossman is Vice President for Research and Education at The Newberry Library and visiting Professor at the University of Chicago. Please register.
