'The Sea Gull' was Anton Chekhov's first success and the first of his plays to be directed by Stanislavski and produced by the famed Moscow Art Theatre. Chekhov is considered Russia's great poet of the everyday, and he wrote against the prevailing melodramatic style of his time.
