Riverside Theatres proudly presents the dynamic musical trio THE POWER OF THREE at Riverside Theatres on Saturday 5 July at 7:30pm for night only.
THE POWER OF THREE are Deborah de Graaff (clarinet), Leah Lock (flute) and John Martin (piano). Theirs is a sparkling combination presenting eclectic programs ranging from the classics to new Australian music written especially for them.
“Our aim is to include a musical program that caters to the interest of all music lovers and is, therefore, accessible to a wide range of audiences. The performance is also interspersed with chat and a general atmosphere of fun and fulfilment,” said pianist John Martin.
Included in the program for this concert are the various duo combinations and piano solos as well as trios. Rags-time and folk arrangements sit beside Saint-Saens and Bach!
Deborah de Graff is the 1983 national winner of the ABC’s Instrumental and Vocal Competition and performed the Clarinet Concerto by Jean Franaix with leading orchestras around Australia. She has performed concertos at the Sydney Opera House with the Australian Brandenburg Orchestra and The Sydney Mozart players.
Leah Lock first studied flute with local wind specialist Virginia Caro, then with Anne Fenlason of the Interlochen Arts Academy. She also studied flute with James Kortum and toured South Africa with the Conservatorium Chamber Orchestra, conducted by Wolfram Christ. In 2004 she presented a live studio broadcast for ABC FM and recorded with John Martin a new work composed by Anne Carr Boyd for Radio National.
John Martin is a frequent performer on ABC Radio and in recital. He has worked with well respected singers, past and current, including Yvonne Minton and Bernadette Cullen; also instrumentalists such as Michael Scott and David Campbell. His enormous repertoire extends to many other styles of music where he has worked with the likes of Peta Toppano and Angela Ayers.
