The Wilma Theater is thrilled to open its 2006-2007 season with Martin McDonagh’s award-winning Broadway hit The Pillowman, directed by Jiri Zizka. Nominated for a Tony® Award and winner of the Olivier Award for Best New Play in London, this provocative and scathingly funny thriller tells the riveting story of a writer named Katurian who is interrogated by two detectives about a series of child-murders that echo his own unpublished stories. As his haunting and twisted tales come to life, Katurian fights to protect his life’s work against government censorship and destruction.

The story begins to unfold when Katurian learns that his mentally impaired brother is being held in the next room. Did the murders really occur? Are the brothers involved? Are Katurian’s ideas too dangerous to publish? Everyone has a story to tell, and the lines between fact and fiction become blurred as “once upon a time” is turned on its head in twistedly comic fashion. Hailed as a “spellbinding stunner of a play” by The New York Times, The Pillowman examines the power of imagination and our irrepressible need to tell and hear stories.

The Pillowman begins previews October 4th, opens on October 11th and closes on November 5th, 2006. Tickets are $35 to $50, with $10 student rush tickets available the day of performances and half-price general rush tickets available 30 minutes before performances, both subject to availability. Subscription prices range from $32-$200, and special discounts are available for seniors, students, educators, and groups of 10 or more.
