Join us for the Chicago Premier of Confessionsofa Ex-Doofus-ItchyFooted Mutha the latest work of legendary filmmakerMelvin Van Peebles. Mr. Van Peebles, best known for the landmark independent film Sweet Sweetback's Baadasssss Song, embraces the new age of digital filmmaking with this picaresque comedy.
Mr. Van Peebles will be on-site at the historic Parkway Ballroom to introduce the film and participate in a lively question and answer session afterwards with a local celebrity. The Parkway, known for leading Bronzeville's cultural vanguard,is pleased to haveMr. Peebles's work launch the five session Parkway Picture Show series.
In the film, Van Peebles plays a fanciful version of himself, growing tired of life at home when he's only ten
and deciding to see the world. He runs away from home and hitches a ride from a friendly truck driver, but things take an unexpected turn when gangsters kill the trucker and the boy is tossed into the river. He drifts to New York City, joins the Merchant marine and visits the four corners of the globe. But with the passage of time, Melvin learns there's a downside to getting everything you want from life.
Featuring cameo appearances from Mario Van Peebles, Glen Turner, Stephanie Weeks and Paul Krassner, thefilmreceived its American premiere at the 2008 Tribeca Film Festival.
