THE PACKER

".. ONE OF THE BEST NIGHT'S IN THEATRE! .." -Sydney Arts Journo

After a critically acclaimed, sell out Sydney season 2008, THE PACKER returns to the Old Fitzroy Theatre for a short encore season prior to it’s U.S. premiere at the Inaugural Hollywood Fringe Festival in June. This one-man show again features the extraordinary performance of JAY RYAN, under the skilful direction of JEREMY LINDSAY TAYLOR.

THE PACKER is an exhilarating roller coaster ride through a charged urban Pacific diversity that is contemporary Auckland. Told through the eyes of Shane, a factory packer still living with his gin-addled old lady, still rooting the ex girlfriend, getting up to mischief with his wigger best mate whilst dreaming up hip-hop fame, Shane has nothing to lose and everything to gain. The arrival of the new Island girl next door throws Shane off his usual game. He is smitten! He’s not the only one! Over the course of one night Shane will discover the emotional ties that bind him to his world can also destroy him.

Set in West Auckland, THE PACKER transcends location and showcases the contemporary world where cultures blend, racial intolerance comes to the forefront and insecurities are exploited with humour and heart.
