The Ojai Art Center Presents: Robert Peake On "Emulation, Originality, And The Writing Tradition" September 10, 2007

A free evening of poetry, lecture, and interactive discussion focused on poetry and the writing life. This talk will center around the writing tradition, drawing on examples from poetry but suitable to any kind of writer - or even just avid readers interested in the writing process. We will explore the power of emulation through concrete examples from a variety of poems by Peake and others, and look at how reading widely and emulating other writers can actually enhance an author's originality. Enjoy a rare opportunity to hear both poetry and thoughts on writing from an active local poet.


About Robert Peake:

Robert Peake studied poetry at U.C. Berkeley and is currently in the Master of Fine Arts program at Pacific University, spending ten days per semester in residency in Oregon. He was most recently a finalist in the 2007 James Hearst Poetry Prize. His poems have appeared or are forthcoming in Askew, California Quarterly, Cider Press Review, North American Review, and two anthologies of Southern California poetry. He has been a featured reader at venues throughout Los Angeles and Ventura counties.
