The OffRamps w/the Darts and Brothers Cortez
9pm
Plymouth’s The Offramps are a powerpop trio who represent powerpop before its reputation was ruined by the Music and Record Company Machine. Three longtime Detroit/Ann Arbor veterans have joined forces to bring something refreshing to the southeastern Michigan table: good tunes, catchy hooks and an energetic, tight sound. If you’re one of the oldies and know of a Detroit music scene before the White Stripes, you might remember drummer Mike Popovich from rocking 90s group The Holy Cows. Popovich also had a stint in perennial Americana favorite American Mars.

Lansing’s The Darts are serious about their music. They play an alternating mix of gritty garage rock and smooth, poppy indie rock with some nice guitar noise mixed in. Their high energy stage presence makes their live shows a blast. You’ll head for the bar after their set feeling like you got slapped in the face with rock’n’roll.

Local critics have crowned the Ferndale-based Brothers Cortez with such praise as “Best band I hadn’t seen before” (Rachel May, Detroit Free Press) and four stars from Real Detroit Weekly’s Jeff Milo on the group’s smoky, sexy, solo-heavy and rhythmic debut album. Glam was never this tough; noisy feedback was never this melodic and metal has never been so classy.
