This year marks the third season for Tulsa Ballet Artistic Director Marcello Angelini's version of The Nutcracker, set in romantic 1920s Paris. Those who miss certain aspects of the old version may be pleased to learn that a new sequence based on the "Mother Ginger" character will be added. But don't expect an old lady with children hiding under her skirt.

"She is going to be a young tap dancer in Paris," Angelini says. "She is going to take her tap students to the house of the Prince to entertain. It's top hat, stick and black tights. I will be calling her Madame Bon Bon. Just a very stylish tap dancer. And that is really for two reasons: First, I love tap. And second, tap seemed to be very popular in the 1920s in Paris. So those two things just seemed to work hand in hand."

Tap into this classic family favorite. Tickets are $15-$55 and are not part of the season subscription. Season subscribers may purchase tickets now. General ticket sales begin September 20.

After select matinee performances, Tulsa Ballet Guild hosts "Sweets for the Suite," a Nutcracker reception for children. This unique holiday celebration offers each child a keepsake photograph with a costumed cast member, a one-of-a-kind goodie bag, delicious refreshments and a chance to win a door prize. One adult gains free admission when accompanied by a child age four or older. The child's pass is $25 and does not include admission to the performance. Space is limited.
