A Vancouver band, The New Pornographers features a who's who of indie-rock stars including Carl Newman from Zumpano and Limblifter's Kurt Dahle and Neko Case. Kevin Grasha of Alternative Press says Okkervil River is "a raggedly rocking avant-folk quartet...augmented by organ, mellotron, fiddle or the occasional blast of a horn section....Okkervil River make falling apart sound good."

Patterson Hood led the band Adam's House Cat that won first place in Musician Magazine's Best Unsigned Band Contest. It's song 'Smiling at Girls' appeared on Warner Bros./Musician Comiplation ('Best of the BUBS') in 1988. However, the band broke up and Patterson Hood and Mike Cooley, the co-founder of the band, went separate ways, only to re-unite in 1996 to form the band Drive-By Truckers which is considered to be one of the most critically acclaimed bands in America.
