The Gilbert and Sullivan Society of Austin proudly presents THE MIKADO ? the classic English comic opera written by W.S. Gilbert and Sir Arthur Sullivan, creators of THE PIRATES OF PENZANCE and H.M.S. PINAFORE.

A wry spoof of Victorian English society masquerading as a Japanese musical drama, THE MIKADO centers on the travails of a lowly tailor, Ko-Ko, who has been condemned to death for flirting. Ko-Ko is reprieved at the last moment and made Lord High Executioner of the town of Titipu. His betrothed, the beautiful maid Yum-Yum, has fallen in love with the lowly Nanki-Poo, a wandering minstrel. To make matters worse, the Emperor of Japan has delivered an ultimatum: the squeamish Ko-Ko must behead someone immediately or ?forthwith be beheaded?!
