Event Description:
Keith Parkinson was a classically-trained fantasy artist and illustrator. Among his first works were book covers for “Dragonlance,” “Forgotten Realms,” and “Gamma World.” In 2000, he focused his interest on the video games industry, and created the signature artwork for the original “EverQuest,” a wildly popular and incredibly successful online role-playing game. Through his friendship with EverQuest designers Brad McQuaid and Jeff Butler, Keith Parkinson joined Sigil Games Online as the art director and cofounder. He worked on the game “Vanguard: Saga of Heroes” until his life was tragically taken by leukemia in late 2005.

The Masters of Fantasy Art is a tribute to Keith Parkinson, and “Vanguard” is his posthumous masterpiece. His oil paintings, the inspiration for the game, will be on display through the month of February at the gallery at The Art Institute of California - San Francisco. His impressive body of work elegantly demonstrates the convergence of fine arts and technology in the online game “Vanguard: Saga of Heroes,” which launches on January 30th.
