Celebrate MARTIN LUTHER KING DAY as Tucson filmmakers unveil their short films inspired by the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

The MLK Day Film Projét (pro-zhay) is a film competition sponsored by the Volunteer Center of Southern Arizona. Competing teams will submit original film shorts (5 minutes or less) based on the concept of Triple Evils as taught by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. The Triple Evils include poverty, racism and war.
The winning submissions will premiere at a special screening at The Loft Cinema on MLK day. A select panel of judges will award entries in the categories of: Best Film, Direction, Theme Integration, and Sound. Each category will recognize one team of youth and one team of adult winners.

Superior submissions will include a compelling, theme-inspired story and diverse perspectives on the issue(s). Your film can be based on just one or all three of the Triple Evils. Portions of the film which exceed the five minute (00:05:00;00) mark will not be judged. Each competing team’s film should focus on how these issues (the Triple Evils) have affected their lives and/or community. Preferably, stories would be about how work in these areas has enhanced/improved lives and/or communities. Registration is free.

Triple Evils Community Film Project: Rules

• Each submission must be made in DVD format.
• Submissions are accepted at the Volunteer Center of Southern Arizona at 924 N. Alvernon Way. Submissions must be received by 5:00pm on Monday, January 5.
• The project must address Martin Luther King Jr.’s “Triple Evils” of war, poverty, and racism.
• As this project is open to the whole community, please make sure that the team is comfortable screening the finished piece in front of all ages.
• Each film crew elects a Team Leader. The Team Leader acts as the contact person for the crew, and is the recipient of any prize that may be awarded. It is the responsibility of the Team Leader to distribute the prize amongst the crew as is seen fit.

Although not an official rule, we encourage each team to include a diverse group of ages, races, genders, ethnicities, religions, abilities, sexual orientations, and identities.
