The author of West of Kabul, East of New York: An Afghan American Story, offers a work in progress--a historical novel set in Afghanistan in 1841. The British, who have invaded Afghanistan and face a mounting insurgency, arrest a local religious zealot, as a possible conspirator. Conflicts ensue as villagers try to reclaim their Malang and are drawn into the horrors of the First Afghan-British war from Kabul?s Grand Bazaar to the icy slopes of the Hindu Kush mountains.
