The Lucy Poems

May 11, 2007 at 8:00pm & 9:30pm

May 12, 2007 at 3:00pm & 8:00pm

at the Clark Studio Theater at Lincoln Center

The Lucy Poems is a series of choreographic works addressing mental
illness by Deborah Lohse (Elias, Night is Falling, Enveloped - Ballet
Builders) to the music of David Lang (Vent, Wed, Men),
Michael Gordon (Light Is Calling) and Bang on a Can (Lost
Objects). Like the series of lyric poems by Wordsworth to which the
title refers, such disassociative “fits of passion” are alternately
watched and lived. In a series of disturbing iterations, the
classical line curls back upon itself. Influenced by working with
people whose “illnesses” are alarmingly reminiscent of our own
experience, Deborah Lohse, an acclaimed downtown choreographer and
performer has found inspiration in their strength and seeks to
honestly portray the anguish of sympathy and the horrors of clinical
psychosis.

The Lucy Poems will be performed by Amy Brandt (Suzanne
Farrell Ballet, Milwaukee Ballet), Elizabeth Brown (New
Chamber Ballet), Candice Thompson (Milwaukee Ballet) and
Deborah Lohse. Costumes by Amanda Waal (Elias, No
Excuses). Lighting by Brant Murray (Lighting Design Fellow-
Lincoln Center Institute).
