The latest signings to Brixton's own Fortuna Pop!, My Sad Captains combine the slacker grunge pop of Pavement with the country cool of the Broken Family Band. Or as Sounds XP described their debut single, 'Bad Decisions': the sound of a perfect summer, all hooks, harmonies and handclaps. Just the thing for late September then!

ARCTIC CIRCLE (Bristol)
A seven-piece multi-instrumental pop band, Arctic Circle embrace boy/girl vocals and have a box of tricks that includes accordion, clarinet, glockenspiel, effects pedals, pan lids, melodica, analogue electronics and all the rest. At live gigs the stage often resembles a jumble sale, echoing their love of homespun aesthetics and languid afternoons. Glorious stuff.
