Luchino Visconti’s The Leopard (Il Gattopardo – 1963, 186 min.) recreates, with nostalgia, drama, and opulence, the tumultuous years of Italy’s Risorgimento—when the aristocracy lost its grip and the middle classes rose and formed a unified, democratic Italy. Starring Burt Lancaster, Alain Delon, and Claudia Cardinale.
This newly restored print is presented February 19 – 21 at the Castro Theatre in collaboration with the Italian Cultural Institute and the Consulate General of Italy.
