Special guest Blanca, will make a rare guest singing appearance with El Chicano, at their request. On percussion will be Mio "Timbalero" Flores, Juan Escovedo of the E Family and Walfredo del los Reyes Jr. formerly of Santana, along with the El Chicano originals Fred Sanchez, Jerry Salas and Mickey Lespron. Salvador Santana comes to the South Bay with his brilliant keyboard virtuosity and full band. Also on the bill is Robert Payne with his group, Showtyme playing danceable R&B favorites.

The house will be rocking and the dance floor open, so come out and celebrate with us.

EL CHICANO with special guests Blanca, Mio "Timbalero" Flores, Juan Escovedo & Walfredo del los Reyes Jr.
El Chicano grew out of the burgeoning Latino music scene from the streets of East Los Angeles. Originally as "The VIP's", founded by Freddie Sanchez, El Chicano was the most successful of the L.A. Latino Rock recording artists. Their seven album run for MCA Records included classic albums such as Viva Tirado, Celebration, Revolucion and Cinco. Their recordings showed a versatile and wide ranging adaptation of all that was currently hip and happening in the 70's USA music scene. "Tell Her She's Lovely", featuring the strong vocals of Jerry Salas, was another Top 40 hit in 1973.

Special guest performing at the Avalon with El Chicano will be Blanca making a rare singing appearance with the band at their request. Also playing in with El Chicano will be Mio "Timbalero" Flores, Juan Escovedo of the E Family and Wilfredo Reyes formerly of Santana. That will be quite a percussion section along with the El Chicano originals Fred Sanchez, Jerry Salas and Mickey Lespron.

Freddie Sanchez, the group's manager says El Chicano is dedicated to continue with the musical legacy that was their passion. The band's cooking live shows always mix hot band originals with their carefully crafted cover versions, which never fail to hit the spot!!

SALVADOR SANTANA
Santana is pushed by a need to step out of his comfort zone in a quest for new ideas. Easy going and humble, Santana exudes the Bay Area vibe. He began playing the drums at age three–sitting on his father’s lap, controlling the snare and tom, as his father worked the hi-hat and kick drum–but his true love was discovered when he began taking piano lessons when he was six. Later, he studied at San Francisco’s heralded School of the Arts before attending Cal Arts in Valencia, CA. His education, passion and lineage have turned Santana into a monster on the keys.

Music truly thrives in his veins. His maternal grandfather was blues pioneer Saunders King and his paternal grandfather was the internationally celebrated violinist and mariachi bandleader Jose Santana. And, of course, his father is 10X Grammy-winning Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Carlos Santana…who’s also a frequent collaborator (Salvador co-wrote “El Farol” from 1999’s smash album Supernatural).

BLANCA
With a soulful voice and lyrics from the heart, singer songwriter Blanca Sandoval has captivated audiences. By means of an unrivaled sound that blends together her Latin musical roots with rock, funk, jazz, and up beat ballads, her style is extremely diverse. Known as "The Sweetheart of Latin Rock, Inc", Blanca recently brought together some very talented musicians to form the band "BLANCA" which includes Robert Zamora (lead guitar), Mike Juarez (drums) and Oscar Tablada (bass). The new four/piece band has been pulling in their own audience and recruiting new fans everywhere they play.

SHOWTYME
Influenced by a variety of music, Showtyme was formed in January 2010 to bring the flavor of the 80's and 90's along with today's music to the forefront. Mixing the past with the music of today is what Showtyme brings to its audience. They rock every event with style and great stage presence. Morris Day and the Time was definitely a huge influence with Showtyme, as you can tell by the way they dress up in their suits, ties and brim hats.

It was a chance meeting at a casino in Lake Tahoe that brought co-founder Romy Geroso and the leader of Showtyme Band Robert Payne together. In retrospect it's amazing how a series of events resulted in this group, Showtyme, coming together.

Romy and Robert put their collective minds and past musical experience together to form the band. In the short time Showtyme has been together, it has built a solid fan base and has been asked to open up for artist such as Freestyle legends Johnny-O and Stevie B as well as Latin legends El Chicano. Showtyme has also performed at the Sunnyvale Music Series main stage, The San Francisco Cherry Blossom Festival, and the San Jose Fourth of July Festival. Based in the SF Bay Area, Showtyme is a seven member band with over 80 years of collective experience. Many of its members have toured or sat in with well known artists such as Pete Escovedo, Tower of Power, Tony Toni Tone, Janet Jackson, Larry Graham, Eric Benet, Sheila E., GQ, Lenny Williams, Malo and many, many more.
