Birdland Theatre is thrilled to announce the return of 2005’s FIVE time Dora Award winning production of The Last Days of Judas Iscariot. Award winning Director David Ferry returns to direct Stephen Adly Guirgis’ critically acclaimed play, which runs from Tuesday, April 7th to Wednesday, April 15th, 2009 in the Fermenting Cellar at the Distillery District.

The play is a time-bending serio-comic drama in an imagined world between Heaven and Hell that re-examines the plight and fate of The New Testament’s most infamous and unexplained ultimate sinner. Throughout the play, figures ranging from Pontius Pilate to Sigmund Freud are called to testify in a trail of “God and the Kingdom of Heaven and Earth versus Judas Iscariot”. Characters modeled from the most contemporary of human clay draw on sound theological doctrine with the searing dialogue and argument that has brought playwright Guirgis acclaim as one of the most ground-breaking and raw voices of our time.

Director David Ferry will once again innovatively transform the Distillery’s Fermenting Cellar into a depressed portal of the underworld featuring a large cast of Canada’s top actors, including the return of Dora Award Winner Diego Matamoros as Satan. Joining him is Dora and Gemini Award winning actor/director Ted Dykstra, Louise Pitre, Jamie Robinson, Philip Akin, Aviva Armour-Ostroff, Adam Brazier, Chris Stanton, Shaun Smyth, Zorana Kydd, Richard Greenblatt, Janet Porter, Zarrin Darnell, Abdu Bedward, and Morris Panych.
