The Klezmatics, tracing their beginnings to the vibrant cultural scene of New York City’s East Village, are global superstars — and the only klezmer band to win a Grammy award. The ensemble performs an eclectic synthesis of tradition-rich klezmer repertoire—steeped in the Jewish heritage of East Europe, with influences drawn from Arab, African, Latin and Balkan rhythms, jazz and punk and informed by topical themes such as human rights and anti-fundamentalism. In the course of more than 20 years and nine albums, The Klezmatics have remained true to their mission of making music that is wild, mystical, provocative, reflective and ecstatically danceable.
