The John Paul II Forum for the Church in the Modern World at the University of St. Thomas will host a lectures exploring the dramatic style, philosophy and theology of “The Jeweler’s Shop,” a play written by Karol Wojtyla, who later became Pope John Paul II.
• “The Jeweler’s Shop” will be performed at 7 p.m., Nov. 4-5 and at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 6, at the Obsidian Art Space, 3522 White Oak. Tickets are $15 with discounts for students. The play was written by Karol Wojtyla in the style of the Rhapsodic Theater, an underground theater group formed in Poland during World War II. Sparse, lyrical and personal – “The Jeweler’s Shop” is about love, commitment and the adventure of life.

• The lecture, “The Proper Weight of Love: John Paul II’s “The Jeweler’s Shop,’” will be given by Dr. Peter Casarella, professor of Catholic Studies and director of Center for World Catholicism and Intercultural Theology at DePaul University. The lecture will be held from 7-9 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 10, on the UST campus, Jones Hall, 3910 Yoakum. The lecture is free and open to the public.
