This event is delivered in two modules covering different aspects of the subject.
A film or theatre production involves many contributors, from the script writer to the costume designer to the producer. Each of the various creatives can claim IP rights, such as copyright, in their work, but they won't own the IP of the whole of the production. The result is a work that accumulates IP like a pyramid, which means that identifying rights' owners and putting appropriate agreements in place can be a daunting task even for an experienced theatre or film producer.
(Module 1)When: 11.11.09 at 18:00 Where: Waterside Arts Centre, Waterside Plaza, Sale, M33 7ZF
We will identify the legal framework of complex creative environments and explain which IP rights are involved in a traditional film or theatre production in which many creative professionals collaborate. A legal expert will advise what kind of agreements need to be in place and when best to negotiate terms and conditions with contributors, such as the script writer or set designer.
(Module 2)When: 25.11.09 at 18:00
Where: Waterside Arts Centre, Waterside Plaza, Sale, M33 7ZF This module is all about clearing rights when you are not directly collaborating with the rights owner but would like to use their work for your film or theatre play, such as a piece of recorded music or photography. How do you identify rights invested in the piece and how can you clear the rights to use safely?
