The Happy Ending Music and Reading Series, chosen by New York Magazine and NY Press as the best reading series in NYC, features the most interesting storytellers, writers, musicians, raconteurs and personalities, and requires the readers to take one public risk, while the the musicians, who open and close each show with their original, lyric-driven music, are required to play one cover song and try to get the audience to sing along..

Scott Snyder’s first collection, Voodoo Heart, is out now from the Dial Press. He teaches creative writing at Columbia and Sarah Lawrence and lives on Long Island with his wife, Jeanie. .

Deb Olin Unferth’s fiction has appeared in Harper's, Conjunctions, NOON, Fence, Boston Review, the Pushcart Prize anthologies, and other publications. Her first collection is forthcoming from McSweeney's. .

Adam Haslett is the author You Are Not a Stranger Here, which was a finalist for a Pulitzer Prize and a National Book Award.  Currently a Guggenheim fellow in fiction, he won this year's PEN/Malamud Award for accomplishment in the short story.    .


Katell Keineg is working on her fourth album due out late 2006/early 2007. Her first three albums, O Seasons, O Castles, Jet, What’s he Only Thing Worse than the End of Time, and High July, were all critically acclaimed. In July 2006, she was the subject of a long profile in The New York Times Magazine and subsequently sold out several gigs..


Amanda Stern is the author of The Long Haul (Soft Skull, 2003). She has been hosting and curating this series since she founded it in 2003. She teaches grades 3-8 at The School at Columbia University and is working on her second novel. .

STERN NOTES: Amanda was in the Sunday New York Times Magazine on Sunday, 9.10.06. She is one of ten acculturating “New Bohemians” in Downtown, NY and not just because she dyes her own clothes and has a hammock in her apartment. Take a look. There’s a photo and everything...
