San Francisco, CA - On July 7, 1967 in the middle of spring break during the legendary Summer of Love, Time Magazine featured a cover story on the Haight in San Francisco called “The Hippies: Philosophy of a Sub-Culture”, chronicling the cultural zeitgeist. At the time Killian MacGeraghty, leader of the San Francisco indie rock band the Gun & Doll Show was tottering around as a five-year old Irish kid from a family of five kids who had moved to Palo Alto, CA from London. Little did he know how the musical influences and surroundings growing up in the 60s and 70s in California would shape him musically. Bands such as the Tubes, Pink Floyd, The Breeders and Hedwig and the Angry Inch among others created a palette he would draw from as he conceived his original band 26 years ago. How fitting that now the Gun & Doll Show headlines the 2010 Haight Street Fair. In a time when so many bands succumb to the seduction of poppy commercialism, the Gun & Doll Show has remained true to its rock roots, much the way Haight Street has remained fiercely independent.

Inspired after seeing a billboard on the way to Sacramento promoting both a gun show and a doll show simultaneously, MacGeraghty set out to form a band that would over-deliver to its fans. Today the seven-member band consisting of three female vocalists, two guitarists, a bassist and drummer, plays to packed crowds at venues like the Great American Music Hall, Café du Nord and Slim’s.

Known for their high energy performance combining European theater and story-telling into what music critic Kirk Hamilton called “the best damned rock show in San Francisco,” the band is planning an hour-long set at 4 PM Sunday June 13th on the main stage.
