The Can Manufacturers Institute is holding the Great American Can Roundup, a national aluminum can contest for both public and private schools. This five-month contest will recognize schools that collect the most aluminum cans per student and overall, earning their school $1,000 to $6,000 in cash. The contest begins on November 15 (America Recycles Day) and ends on April 22 (Earth Day).
Schools must register and complete a recycling log. For more information, including marketing material, educational curriculum and tips to help you become successful, log onto www.cancentral.com/RoundUp. Deadline to register is December 15. Start collecting NOW.
Mid-Columbia Earth Month organizers, the City of Richland Green Living Office and the Franklin Conservation District will also honor participating schools from the Mid-Columbia. Last year there were no schools in Washington State that entered the national contest.
