CHRISTMAS WITH CHARLIE CHAPLIN
THE GOLD RUSH / THE KID
Sun, December 23 • 7:30pm
In THE GOLD RUSH, the Lone Prospector (Chaplin) travels to the far-off Yukon in search of gold, but ends up falling in love with dance-hall girl Georgia Hale; the classic "dance of the dinner rolls" and "boiled shoe leather" scenes show Chaplin’s gift for poignant comedy at its very best. In his first film masterpiece, 1921's THE KID, Chaplin’s Tramp takes a hapless, orphaned baby under his wing and raises him as his own - but a confluence of events conspire to separate the two.
