In 1985, when the guitar in British popular music was nearing extinction, Peter and Chris Coyne formed The Godfathers, a bold foil to the prevailing trends. They built their sound upon searing blues guitar riffs and crisp back beats, a style that was decidedly working-class and geared towards raucous pubs. They constructed their first LP 'Hit By Hit' around singles they had released independently, resulting in worldwide acclaim and a deal with Epic Records. As a primary influencer of the dominant Britpop of the 1990s, The Godfathers is one of the most important rock bands in the history of the UK, thus their dissolution in 2000 gave way to an inevitable reconstitution in 2008.
