Frank and Emma are simple Wisconsin dairy farmers. Their lives are turned upside down when a friend, Haynes, comes to stay. He is on the lamb for his involvement in secret plutonium experiments. When Welch, a smooth talking government agent arrives his aggressive patriotism puts Frank, Emma and Haynes on the defensive, transforming a heartland American household into a scene of torture.
