Makoto was a clumsy teenage tomboy until a freak accident gave her the ability to leap backwards in time. Like any young girl might, she uses her ability to undo embarrassing little mistakes, retake tests, and keep her friendships in check. Far from making her life easier, the seemingly insignificant changes she makes in the past have complicated consequences, not only for herself, but for everyone involved. Through the gift of time travel Makoto realizes that accidents happen for a reason as each successful leap brings her one step closer to discovering the most important secret of her young life.

Directed by Mamoru Hosoda, this is the first animated adaptation of Yasutaka Tsutsui’s classic sci-fi novel, which has inspired a number of live action films, TV shows and manga since it first appeared in 1965. A major award winning film, The Girl Who Leapt Through Time appeals to all audiences—anime fans, newcomers, and critics alike.
