The Gin Game February 10, 2007

A play by D. L. Coburn that explores truths about loneliness as an elderly couple play a game of gin. Weller Martin is a man who has managed to keep his mental faculties in his old age, but whose failing health has forced him into a home for the elderly. When Fonsia Dorsey arrives, Weller convinces her to join him in a game of gin. The way the two play the game reflects the way they interact with one another in real life--Weller blames Fonsia for his run of bad luck, while she pesters him with her goodness. Their need for companionship is counterbalanced by their inability to reach out to others, and as their game progresses, the secrets they keep are laid bare.
