Over the past decade, The Georgia Cup has evolved from an intimate club event to a global golf tradition as each year the United States and British Amateur Champions gather at The Golf Club of Georgia for a unique, exciting 18-hole match on their way to the Masters. The Georgia Cup match is open to the public and supports the Yates Scholarship Fund of the Georgia State Golf Foundation, the charitable branch of the Georgia State Golf Association.
The Georgia Cup started in 1998, with Georgia Techs Matt Kuchar, the U.S. Amateur champion, defeating British Amateur champion Craig Watson, 3 & 1. Other Georgia Cup champions have included Sergio Garcia, Ryan Moore, David Gossett and Ricky Barnes.

From 1998 to the present, The Golf Club of Georgia has developed a reputation with the Georgia Cup competitors as the gold standard of hospitality and golfs purest traditions. The Georgia Cup competitors and Honorary Captains all become lifetime honorary members of The Golf Club of Georgia.
The Georgia Cup presents a special opportunity for galleries attending at The Golf Club of Georgia. In the spirit and intimacy of the Walker Cup matches, fans can walk with the players, unhindered by gallery ropes, enjoying a unique perspective.
