The Gender Boiling Pot: Social Responsibility for Violence Against Women November 27, 2009

Bright Presence Training Ltd are offering a couple of FREE seminar events in Manchester as part of the International 16 Days of Action to End Violence Against Women. This campaign, by the Center for Women’s Global Leadership, is in its 19th year and has done much for the issues of gender violence against women around the world.

This is a massively serious issue with 1 in 4 women in the UK having experience domestic violence at some time, and globally, 1 in 3.

This kind of violence really can end if we all care enough about it to act, but only if we start treating the causes and not the symptoms, otherwise we are simply pruning a bush that keeps growing.

In this, the first event, we begin by looking at the history of gender development, it’s unfoldment and education throughout the 20th century, this talk looks at social, state, cultural and media responsibility for the ongoing problems of violence against women. Following a showing of the 30 minute film ‘Killing Me Softly 3’ with Jean Kilbourne, a Bright Presence Training Ltd Speaker will explore and expose the Gender Boiling Pot simmering just beneath the surface in our society. This is an action-and-solutions focussed presentation in line with this year’s campaign theme “Commit. Act. Demand.”
