The G2 Gallery Presents America’s Galapagos: Picturing the Channel Islands with Acclaimed Author/Photographer Ian Shive April 27, 2013

Venice, CA—On Tuesday, April 23, 2013, The G2 Gallery will debut America’s Galapagos: Picturing the Channel Islands, a new exhibit of photography by Ian Shive. This solo exhibition will feature never before seen images of the Channel Islands in Shive’s first ever gallery exhibition.
The exhibit focuses primarily on the rugged landscape of the Channel Islands, which begin approximately 25 nautical miles off the coast off Los Angeles. Highlighting the conservation efforts of The Nature Conservancy, the exhibit will also provide a look at some of the Islands’ endemic species that the Conservancy has fought to preserve. Santa Cruz Island, the largest and most biologically diverse of the Channel Islands, is often referred to as America’s Galapagos, for its wide array of species found nowhere else on Earth.
The exhibit will be comprised of Shive’s best pieces and new work created specifically for this exhibit. Lauded for his past work on the National Parks, Shive is currently working on a second National Parks book for the 100th anniversary of the Parks system. Having traveled to the majority of the country’s national parks, Shive has a particular fondness for the one nearest to his adopted home of Los Angeles, he states, “Channel Islands is my personal favorite national park. If I can go anywhere I will go there.” Images featured in America’s Galapagos will be printed on handmade paper and offered in limited editions of 25.
All proceeds from the exhibit and the opening reception will be donated to The Nature Conservancy. Scheduled for Saturday, April 27, from 6:30–9:00 pm, admission to the opening reception will be $5 and includes live music, wine, hors d’oeuvres, and valet parking. RSVP to [email protected].
