Using Nuclear Power to Develop the Oil Sands in Alberta

The Calgary Council for Advanced Technology is ending their successful 2008-2009 “Future of…” event series with their annual year-end BBQ at which Dr. Duane Bratt from the Department of Policy Studies at Mount Royal College will present on nuclear power in Alberta.

The concept of using a nuclear power station to support development of the oil sands in Alberta has become an increasingly hot topic. Several groups are now preparing proposals; however, it is uncertain if these proposals will ever be approved and the reactors actually built.

Our speaker, Dr. Duane Bratt, has studied the nuclear industry in Canada for many years and will share his insights on this controversial issue with us. Dr. Bratt teaches political science and public policy at Mount Royal College and has published extensively on nuclear power in Canada. He is also a frequent contributor to TV and radio, including appearances on City TV’s Breakfast Television.

Come and join us for a picnic-style BBQ and an insightful talk about the prospects for nuclear power in Alberta. This event is being presented in partnership with The Centre for Innovation Studies (THECIS).
