The Freedom performance is a collaboration between Tyne and Wear Museums, Dance City, professional artists and performers and 9 community groups from across Northumberland and Tyne and Wear. The performance consists of creative writing, dance, music and visual pieces. All sections of the performance have been inspired by museum collections relating to slavery. The performance was created to mark 2007 as the 200th anniversary of the parliamentary abolition of the slave trade in the British colonies.
