The First Annual Beatnik Hop
A celebration of the Beatnik scene of the late 50s/early 60s, the First Annual Beatnik Hop will take place on Friday, October 27 at Live Worms Art Gallery in North Beach. A mix of the sacred and profane, the evening is a tribute to the original Beat spirit with a heavy nod to the Beatnik culture that flourished in San Francisco's North Beach, Greenwich Village, Venice Beach and beyond; it's influence on pop culture continues to this day.

Free expression will be encouraged- there will be poetry read to live jazz with saxophonist Aaron Rossi (Nick Rossi Set), dancing to rare jazz and beatnik rock 'n roll on 45s/33s/78s by DJ Chas Gaudí, archival Beat Generation and Beatnik exploitation films (continuous projection) and a spontaneous prose/continuous scroll typewriter (à la Kerouac's On the Road). Guests are encouraged to dress the part and it is B.Y.O.B (Bring Your Own Bongos). Admission is free and refreshments will be available.

This event is hosted by Chas Gaudí Presents in association with The North Beach Chamber of Commerce, the North Beach Festival and Arte del Leone. Live Worms Gallery will be showing works by the 2006 winners of the North Beach Festival's Arte di Gesso street painting competition.

Chas Gaudi Presents is San Francisco DJ, Flare Records' owner and event producer Pete Gowdy (aka DJ Chas Gaudi). Winner of The SF Bay Guardian's "Best of the Bay" award for Workin' Stiff (a series of early evening rock and roll shows), host of Shellac Shack (the Bay Area's only 78 rpm weekly DJ party), c86 (underground 80s) and Endless Summer (sunny 60s pop, surf, and hotrod sounds).
