Pendleton, Indiana – What has to be one of the biggest undertakings by the Pendleton, Indiana Historical Museum was given a major boost thanks to the generosity of St. Johns Health System in Anderson, Indiana, part of the St. Vincent Health System. During the 3 days of this event Falls Park will come to life and depict an era from the 1800’s, which the museum is calling, The Encounter in Falls Park. This mega event is like no other held in this area. It will take place May 1-3 in Falls Park and is totally free to anyone who would like to attend. The sole sponsor for the entire event is St. Johns Health System in Anderson. The three days will be hosted by the Pendleton, Indiana Historical Museum, Spring Trails, the Pendleton Community Library, and Falls Park. The Encounter in Falls Park will take spectators back to what times were like at the time of the Lincoln-Douglas debate, the time of cowboys, and the Civil War.

Just some of the events taking place during this three day journey into history are, a battle, cannons firing, a reenactment of the Lincoln — Douglas Debate, a Fredrick Douglass Presentation, a concert at the Gazebo, a barn dance, a Civil War exhibit, and there will be Sunday Period Church Services held. The museum will also hold special hours during this entire event.

Falls Park is well know and reaches back in what is a deep and rich history. In this historic area, Fredrick Douglass was attacked by a mob and was said to have been reported by the Boston Liberator. This incident took place in the area on September 16, 1843. It is also the area were three white men were hung in 1825 for killing Indians.

This is certainly an event for the entire family and one nobody will want to miss. Additional details can be found by stopping by the Pendleton Historical Museum during their regular hours or by visiting their web site at http://www.pendletonhistoricalmuseum.org.
