Part experimental theater. Part rock and roll cabaret. Part mystic mind-expansion. The Ego and The Oracle is a night of live rock and roll divination based upon Andras Jones’ Radio8Ball show on KAOS 89.3 FM in Olympia, Washington, featuring Boston’s Jim’s Big Ego as the band. The premise is as simple as it is unique. Audience members are invited onstage to ask questions of the oracle. Their answers are chosen by spinning a wheel with the band’s songs on it. When the wheel stops Jim’s Big Ego plays the song and then, with the help of “Professor” Jones, the answer is interpreted. The readings can be humorous or moving, sometimes both at once. It is a show about synchronicity and it’s very hard to experience it without getting a sense that there is more magic and intelligence at work in the world than we generally credit.

Radio8Ball (http://www.myspace.com/radio8ball) has been broadcasting on KAOS 89.3 FM in Olympia since 1998. During that time writer/actor/musician and broadcast mystic Andras Jones has had several co-hosts (the current co-host is Tammy Tillinghast) and many live musical guests, including Rickie Lee Jones, Dan Bern, Michael Penn & John Wesley Harding as well as celebrity interpreters like Seth Green, Rae Dawn Chong, Andy Dick, and a healthy dose of local astrologers, tantrikas and prophetic authors. When Radio8Ball doesn’t have a guest providing the musical answers the “pop oracle” is accessed by picking CDs at random, playing them on shuffle function and interpreting the randomly chosen song as the answer to the caller’s question, like shaking an 8ball or picking a musical tarot card. Radio8Ball currently broadcasts every Tuesday from 6 to 8pm and can be heard online at www.kaosradio.org.

Jim’s Big Ego are an “unpop” band from Boston, Massachusetts, led by singer-songwriter Jim Infantino, whose meditative musings and a leftist political bent makes his songs perfect oracle fodder for this show. Among JBE’s many achievements are their award winning song “Stress”, the popularity of their viral-videos: "Little Miss Communication", "Y2K - Hooray", "Filmstrip International (A$#h%le)" to name a few, and their ability to stay ahead of the curve in the delivery of digital music on the internet. Jim’s Big Ego were guests on Radio8Ball on their last tour of the northwest and they were blown away by the format. Not satisfied to simply milk their cult status in the New England indie rock scene Jim’s Big Ego decided to turn their attention to creating a stage event, and with Radio8Ball as an inspiration, The Ego and The Oracle was born.

Jim’s Big Ego teamed up with Andras Jones to present The Ego and The Oracle last fall for a short and successful run at Jimmy Tingle’s Off Broadway Theater in Somerville, Massachusetts to critical acclaim and enthusiastic crowds. A follow-up is planned for later this spring. This will be the first presentation of The Ego and The Oracle in Seattle.
