The Django Reinhardt Festival, Vox Ama Deus: Valentin Radu, Conductor; Dan Grigore, Pianist November 2, 2007

Gypsy guitarist Django Reinhardt is legendary. Formed in 2002, a quintet of renowned musicians celebrate his music, led by Dorado Schmitt, a gypsy lead guitarist from the Lorraine region of Paris and a true Django Reinhardt disciple. John Pizzarelli is popular both as a singer of swing-era standards and as a fine guitarist. He worked with Tony Monte's trio starting in 1986, and then, in 1990, he started his own solo career usually heading drumless trios.

The Ama Deus Ensemble, combines with the Vox Renaissance Consort to make up Vox Ama Deus, a Philadelphia-based musical organization specializes in authentic performances of vocal and instrumental music of the 15th through 18th centuries. Ama Deus, focused on the music of the Classical and Baroque periods, is made up of singers trained in early performance practice and an orchestra of authentic period instruments. Tonight, works by Beethoven and Grieg will be performed.
