“Just goes to prove that no matter how hard you wish, sometimes it just isn’t going to go your way.” The Disappearing Act

TORONTO, ON… If you had the ability to just disappear inside yourself where would you go? Which facets of yourself would you choose to explore? Is there one person inside you that begs to get out while inviting another to disappear inside? In this explosive new play, three characters, fighting to have their voices heard, share their perceptions of the world through their histories, experiences and senseless struggles. Through their observations, we gain an insight into the world we find ourselves in with its indifference, its cruelty and its vain, ambitious greed.

Allan Royal is one of Canada’s most respected actors and his career has spanned over 40 years and includes major roles in television, film and onstage. The Disappearing Act represents Allan Royal’s one-man theatrical debut and promises to be a challenging and thought-provoking work. Mr. Royal is well known for his starring roles on “Night Heat,” “Falcon Crest” and most recently on the controversial projects “The Kennedys” and “Skins.”

Mr. Royal describes the questions he is posing in The Disappearing Act by explaining, “The play begs the questions that filter through our heads daily…have conscience and responsibility ended up in the recycle trash with the over packaged cardboard? Is one human life any more important than another?”

Allan Royal performed the world premiere of The Disappearing Act at the Roddy McCorley Social Club (a former IRA stronghold) in Belfast and then in London, England at the Hot Tap Theatre in November 2011.

Music in the show is courtesy of “The Blue Melting Mile” by Suzanne McKenney.
