On December 19th, 2009, just 1 day before the longest night of the year, we will be celebrating the Darkest Night of the Year, an all-night trance-dance winter solstice gathering.

We are bringing to your brains, 2 artists who will be getting on a plane to play with us, 2 more artists who have moved here within a month or so, and 1 artist that no one has heard for quite sometime.  This will not be a 'usual suspects' event!

The Music

10PM - Midnight

Naelika (L.A./Mexico - Psytribe)
Some of you heard Naelika at Kelley Point park the last time we gathered there.  She brings a wide range of styles from more full-on to the darker psyde.  From what I have seen though, she gets peoples asses shaking and is going to be the perfect person to help us shake off the jitters and let loose.

Midnight - 2AM

Dragon LIVE (Mississippi/Florida - DharmaHarmony Records)
Some of us heard Dragon play in North Carolina at the World Brige 4 event.  He was one of my favorites of the night, with a truly solid style of all original music that flows with strong push.  Techy and slightly industrial, evoking sounds of Parus and Terminator.  Perfect music to flow from Naelika and keep the energy ominously moving upwards.

2AM - 4AM

Catatonic Despair LIVE *tentative (Utah - Nabi/Tantrumm Records)
Catatonic Despair's music is a force to be reckoned with.  It will make you put your thinking caps on and create a new awareness of space and depth in music.  His sounds are truly truly experimental, truly eery and spacious, with filtered percussion and psychedelic structure.  He will be a fitting 2 hours of music during the darkest part of our night.

4AM - 6AM

Malaclypse (Portland - Quantum Frog/HSS Records)
Remember this guy?  He and I went in to the doctors and had ourselves surgically removed from each other just so he could play 2 hours of his own banging pstyle.  Mala's music has an abstactness to the percussion and a long flow of sound, but tends to keep the dance elements present for the mind/booty/spirit connection.

6AM - 8AM

Fatty Acid (dArkansas - Esoteric Generation)
Newly transplanted from the great state that brought us Bill Clinton, Fatty Acid has a wide range of goodies to feed into the cdj's.  One of the active promoters of his home state, he is excited to make his Portland debut on The Darkest Night of the Year.  Expect to hear a meld of sick and sweet, a groovy last course to bring you back into your body and into a new winter.

8AM - Cleanup    Super Special Dark Ambient Closing Set

Herbie (Portland - JellyCore Productions)
Herbie is one of the true collectors in the Portland scene and has been collecting music of all styles in his constant search to squeeze his own brain like a wet sponge... with sound.  It has been many a year since we have heard him pull out beatless atmospheres and eery soundscapes, and it is certain to be a heady finish to a mindmelting night.

The Location

Zoomtopia - 810 SE Belmont Ave, 97214

This is a no shoes, no glowsticks, spring loaded dance-powered dance floor.

This is a beautiful space close in to the heart of the city, easy to get to by anyone.  A dance space about 1/3 larger than Center Space, surrounded by nothing but businesses and owned by conscious and cool people, this space is looking to be an amazing new venue and a fantastic place to celebrate The Darkest Night of the Year!!!

More Info

We will be updating you in the coming days with info about sound and more about the space and food and all the other amazing treats that will be presented at this full-power trance party.  Have no doubt, though, that the sound will be pumping and clean, as it always is.

This is an 18+ event.  Anyone under the age of 18 will be turned away.

The Cost for the event is...
20$... first 21 people are 15$
