Edge Hill University Performing Arts Department 3rd Year Students present The Convict's Opera by Stephen Jeffreys in the Studio Theatre.

Tickets £8.00 / £4.50 concessions

Stephen Jeffreys' The Convict's Opera re-imagines the world's first ever musical, The Beggar's Opera, as a performance on board a creaking convict ship bound for Australia. To pass the time on their journey to Australia, the convicts put on John Gay's musical satire, introducing us to treacherous highwayman MacHeath and sweet Polly Peachum as they juggle love and deceit in the 18th Century criminal underworld.

"Part historical romp, part Brechtian jukebox musical" - Sun-Herald, Australia

This performance will take place in the Studio Theatre, Performing Arts Centre
