The West Coast premiere of Susan Rethorst's acclaimed "Behold Bold Sam Dog" takes center stage as part of Hope Mohr Dance's sixth home season. The shows are the culmination of Rethorst's residency in the Bay Area, part of Hope Mohr Dance's Bridge Project, which brings notable choreographers to the Bay Area to enrich the cultural landscape. Known for works that are rich in gestural detail, meticulously crafted, funny, and surprising, Rethorst will present a work using outstanding local dancers and choreographers who are otherwise unaffiliated with Hope Mohr Dance.

Hope Mohr and Susan Rethorst will share their work and insights at several pre-season events, including an open rehearsal with Susan Rethorst on April 21 at ODC Dance Commons in San Francisco and an open rehearsal on April 22 with Hope Mohr Dance. The following Sunday, April 28, Rethorst will lead a workshop based on the "choreographic mind," encouraging artists to fuel their work with questions and curiosity. Following the workshop, she will offer a free public reading of her book "A Choreographic Mind: Autobodygraphical Writings," in which she investigates the creative process and offers fresh perspectives on evaluating dance. The book was named one of the New Yorker's Top Ten of 2012. Reservations for the workshop can be made by e-mailing [email protected].
