"THE CHARLES PHOENIX HOLIDAY JUBILEE"
Kitsch culture expert Charles Phoenix expands
his popular "Retro Holiday Slide Show" to include
singing, dancing, music, cooking and a few surprises.

Four performances only, December 17-20 at 8 pm,
at Downtown's REDCAT.

LOS ANGELES, CA - Humorist Charles Phoenix has expanded his annual Retro Holiday Slide Show into an evening of Variety Arts that celebrates how Americans decorated, dressed up, dined and drank during the holidays in the 1950s, 60s and 70s. The all-new "The Charles Phoenix Holiday Jubilee" features singing, dancing, music, cooking and a few surprises in addition to the "best of" Phoenix's unique retro holiday slide collection that has developed a loyal cult following. Performances take place December 17 through 20 at REDCAT.

From the kitsch to the classic, Charles Phoenix loves to celebrate mid-century American design and culture. Join him at REDCAT, where you'll revel in all the holidays like you never have before. Your imagination will be inspired and your spirit will soar at this uniquely entertaining performance.

"There will be a colorful panoply of classic American acts, like the legendary Bob Baker Marionettes, beautiful ballerina Caitlyn Carradine, a vintage holiday yard ornament light show spectacular, and seasonal musical stylings on the Hammond Organ by the world’s greatest roller rink organist, Dominic Cangelos," explains Phoenix. "I'll be wearing some fancy costumes and teaching the audience how to make ambrosia - holiday style, of course. Then I'll show some of my all-time favorite vintage holiday slides."

With his abundant joy, sharp wit and gleeful commentary, Phoenix, who was a recent guest on "The Martha Stewart Show" and KTLA's "Morning Show" and is a regular commentator on NPR's "Day to Day," supercharges the classic living room slide show into a hysterical/historical celebration of mid-century American holiday culture. In addition to his Retro Slide Show performances and "Slide of the Week"
e-mails, Charles guides vintage school bus field trips tours of Downtown Los Angeles (proving that "the heart and soul of L.A. is just like a big theme park") and is the author of seven colorful coffee table books. His latest, Americana the Beautiful: Mid Century Culture in Kodachrome, is published by Angel City Press.

The Charles Phoenix Holiday Jubilee takes place Monday, December 17 though Thursday, December 20 at REDCAT, located at the corner of W. 2nd St. and S. Hope St., inside the Walt Disney Concert Hall complex (631 West 2nd Street; Los Angeles, 90012). All performances begin at 8 pm. Tickets to all performances are $35.00.
