The Borromeo String Quartet opens an ambitious new cycle and celebrates one of Boston’s hidden gems on Sunday, October 1 at 4 pm. In five concerts over the next two and a half years, the ensemble will pair Beethoven string quartets with music related in diverse ways. This opening concert pairs one of Beethoven’s earliest and one of his latest quartets ? Opus 18, No. 4 and Opus 132 ? with “Hope Cycles” by Israeli composer Lior Navok. Navok will be present at this performance of his haunting reflection on the Israeli-Palestinian war ? the pain it causes to those who live through it and the hope that persists for its end ? commissioned especially for the Borromeo Quartet by the Koussevitzky Foundation.

The performance is a benefit for the concert and poetry series at Forsyth Chapel, one of Boston’s hidden architectural and acoustic treasures. Admission is $60 and includes a post-concert reception with Navok and the Quartet; reservations available at 617.524.3354, [email protected].
