"[ELECTRO PUNK] The Bats are coming out of hiding this January to round out a four-band benefit for Shane Asbery of My Favorite Everything (who is undergoing cancer treatment), and I’m polishing my dancing shoes. The Bats’ 2005 debut, Zombiance, relies heavily on synth-based beats that vacillate from the sweetly innocent to the sweetly deranged, while darker accents of guitars and dream-soaked indie vocals humanize its new-wave-revival sound. Live, the band is video-game-y, heartfelt and guaranteed, as they proudly proclaim, to “make your ass do strange things.” Now, if that isn’t an intriguing incentive to see the boys in the flesh, I don’t know what is.
