The AWG presents Thom Racina and Tracy Torme June 4, 2005

Novelist Thom Racina and writer/producer Tracy Torme will speak at the Alameda Writers Group meeting on Saturday, June 4, 2005. Doors open at 9:45 a.m. and the meeting begins at 10 a.m. at the Glendale Central Library, 222 East Harvard St., Glendale.

Racina will discuss making the transition from writing for film and TV to writing novels.

After writing two novels, he took a 19-year "break" to write for television, and then returned to novels. He was responsible for more than 4,000 broadcast hours of "General Hospital," "Days of Our Lives," and other daytime dramas. He received five Emmy nominations.

Torme will discuss the importance of mastering more than one medium, and share tips for becoming a producer.

His television credits include "Carnivale," "SCTV," "Sliders," "Star Trek: The Next Generation" (for which he won a Peabody Award) and the miniseries "Intruders." He written a feature film, a novel, and is a guest columnist for the New York Times. Currently, he is co-writing a new series for Showtime.

Admission is free, and the library validates parking in the structure at Harvard and Maryland.

The AWG presents lectures by novelists, screenwriters, agents, producers and other industry professionals at free monthly meetings. In addition, AWG members may attend special interest groups that offer support and feedback for works-in-progress.
